The Classic Social Contractarians: Critical Perspectives from Contemporary Feminist Philosophy and Law

This volume analyses the social contract theorists through the lens of contemporary feminist philosophy. In particular, the work focuses on the relationship between the 'self' and the law and how social contractarians have viewed this relationship. Interlinked with this concern about self and society is the question of political freedom and the issue of consent. This involves the state and its laws as well as the ways in which we conceive of other traditional power structures, such as those within the family.
