Romain Rolland (1866 ¿1944) was a French dramatist, essayist, art historian and mystic who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1915. Rolland was strongly influenced by the Vedanta philosophy of India, through the works of Swami Vivekananda. Rolland wanted the theater to be accessible to everyone. He felt that a more democratic theater was necessary. Clerambault
