This collection accompanied the Florentine State Archives' exhibition honoring the early Humanist Coluccio Salutati on the six hundredth anniversary of his death. Carefully chosen documents drawn from the State Archives illuminate this intellectual man of his times, while providing new perspectives on early Renaissance Florentine political culture. Interesting contributions shed light on Salutati's civil and cultural role in the vanguard of the Humanistic movement, made possible by his long-standing place in the Florentine chancellery, where he fought to protect ideals of liberty, democracy and civil obligations.
