Contemporary Organization Theory

This research monograph reviews the work of a wide range of major figures writing over the last two decades. A tradition of commentary is notably absent in the recent study of organization and developments tend to be presented thematically, rather than through an assessment of theoretical contribution. Criticism is thus relegated to secondary status and there is currently no single volume that comments directly on the approach of those writers who have most stimulated and enlargened the recent study of organization.In introducing and overviewing the work of sixteen key theorists, this edited collection clarifies what makes each distinctive as a contemporary resource for other researchers in the field. Additionally each chapter engages critically with these ideas and thus seeks in turn to develop them. So while taking stock of advances in thinking about organization, the collection also articulates a vision of the possible future of organization theory.
