As the title states this book is a practical guide to fighting with some of the foremost weapons used by the ancient Scottish Highlander: the broadsword and targe, the claymore, the Lochaber axe, and the dirk. As the bibliography indicates there are numerous manuals written about the science and practices of ancient weapons. Unfortunately there is almost nothing written about the martial arts of the Scottish Highlander. "The Cutting Edge" borrows from the simplicity of George Silvers work, "Brief Instructions" and his realistic view toward personal combat. This work attempts to breach the gap in information by pulling personal combat methods from several European manuscripts and illustrating what proved to be the most practical techniques as well as the most effective.
