Mamet's plays and films dramatize the conflicts, contradictions, and covert affection between men. Arthur Holmberg is Professor of Dramatic Literature, Theater History, and Performance Theory at Brandeis University and the Literary Director of the American Repertory Theater at Harvard University, USA. His books include The Theatre of Robert Wilson and David Mamet and American Macho. He served as US editor for The World Encyclopedia of Contemporary Theatre and also edited The Lively ART: Twenty Years of the American Repertory Theatre. His articles on theater, film, music, and the novel have appeared in many publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post, International Herald Tribune, Los Angeles Times, Modern Drama, Opera News, and Comparative Literature.
