The first of the thirteen colonies to ratify the Constitution, Delaware has a history that more than explains its motto: "Liberty and Independence." The state keeps its history very much alive through popular historical sites such as the John Dickinson Mansion and the Old Dutch House, but Delaware has also moved with the times, becoming a center for chemical production and a magnet for stock car lovers at its world-famous Rehoboth Beach Speedway.
