Except for one critical element, every school youngster knows the outcome of the battle at Yorktown, VA., that brought the American Revolution to a close on October 19, 1781. A magnanimous gesture by the French to come to the aid of the colonial forces of General Washington, fighting for survival, significantly assisted our ultimate victory.This accounting, with no intent to downplay the tremendous contributions of America?s men in arms, weaves into the actual events that occurred during that year of Revolution, the activities of a fictional British sea Captain, aboard the HMS Pelican 24.
