Every Christian missionary society has a variety of histories. Depending on the perspective, it is the history of a mission in its region of origin or the history of intercultural encounters in its areas of activity and thus part of the history of those towards whom the activities of the mission were directed. Within the Royal Danish- Halle Mission (1706-1845) several hundred Indians were active besides the more than 50 European missionaries. The origins and development of this group of local co-workers is not only a consequence of strategic considerations by the missionaries but is also the result of active formation by the Indian employees themselves.
