The Disentanglement of Populations Migration, Expulsion and Displacement in postwar Europe, 1944-49

This book provides an examination of population movements, both forced and voluntary, within the broader context of Europe in the aftermath of the Second World War, in both Western and Eastern Europe. The authors bring to life problems of war and post-war chaos, and assess lasting social, political and demographic consequences.

JESSICA REINISCH Lecturer in European History at Birkbeck College, University of London, UK. She is author of Public Health in Germany under Allied Occupation (Rochester University Press, 2011); co-editer with Mark Mazower and David Feldman of Postwar reconstruction in Europe (OUP, 2011); and co-editor with David Cesarani, Susanne Bardgett and J-D Steinert of two volumes on survivors of the Holocaust, entitled Landscapes after battle, (Vallentine Mitchell, 2010 and 2011). She was also guest editor of a special issue of the Journal of Contemporary History (July 2008, Vol.43, No.3) on Relief work in the aftermath of war.

ELIZABETH WHITE Lecturer in International History at the University of Ulster, UK. As well as working on postwar Leningrad, she has recently published a monograph on Russian revolutionary politics, The Socialist Alternative to Bolshevism: The Socialist Revolutionary Party in Emigration, 1921-39, (Routledge, 2010). Her current research is on childhood in the Russian emigration, focusing on cultural practices and national identity.
