Through the Portal is a sci-fi thriller with an attitude that is part military novel, part mystery and part cowboy Western. Meet Alex Bird, a man who has seen more military action than he can recall since the crash of the computer systems in 1999 changed everything. The world is certainly different now, with alliances, governments and even the stars in the sky aligned along a separate path. Writer Kevin Nielson has crafted a story that is full of everything a reader could want: action, murder, romance and aliens! Events start to take on a sinister bent, as Alex and attractive pilot Laura are brought together to put the pieces of the puzzle of a murder and crashing planes together. Each must wade through their own tangled backgrounds to come through whole to the other side, but some baggage may prove too heavy to let go. The tide of events doesn't help any, either. The mystery of a woman beaten to death on base is compounded by a larger, looming conflict, and the two must cling to the few things they know to be true in order to survive. When a piece of alien technology threatens all the rules, Alex must work to avert the destruction it represents. In a world where there is treachery at every turn, Alex is keeping his enemies as close as possible. But the combined forces of a fellow team member losing his mind, alien creatures and a string of combatants with their own agenda may prove too much. Each page brings a new challenge, new struggles and new understanding about what they're up against.
