Don Maynard: Franken Forest

Whether sculpture, painting or video, Maynard's work is distinguished by an adept use of light and perceptual ambiguity. This first monograph documents a new multimedia installation featuring a grove of fabricated trees and a stop-action video projection of a forest canopy. Skirting allusions to genetically engineered crops and nanobuilt environments through use of everyday materials such as glass, nails, laminate flooring and Christmas lights, Maynard's work plumbs our uneasiness with the irreversible drift of species loss and the insufficient theater of their replacement.
