The Earth Endures

The musical "Evita" came to life onstage almost four decades ago, telling the story of the little-known wife of an Argentine dictator. Today everybody knows who Evita is and many people can sing "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina." The new novel "The Earth Endures" portrays the terror and agony of Argentina's revolution. It covers the period before and after Juan Peron's removal from office. Argentina in the mid-1950s is in chaos. The army, the church, and the communists each have plans to save the nation. The only issue they agree on is that Perón must go. Into this fray comes a German-born CIA agent, Argentina's chief spy catcher, an ambitious police detective, a teenage courtesan, a spoiled American debutante, and a female assassin. Each with a different motive, they are caught up in the revolution.
