East Asia Beyond the History Wars: Confronting the Ghosts of Violence

At a time when controversies over history have become a major source of conflict between the countries of East Asia (Japan, China and Korea), East Asia Beyond the History Warsexamines the role of popular culture in promoting both friction and reconciliation within the region. Mobilizing a combination of perspectives from history and cultural studies, it considers how films, art and museum displays and cultural heritage have reflected and shaped contesting memories of the past, and explores the possible role of such media in promoting mutual understanding.
