The Economic History of Japan: 1600-1990 Volume 3: Economic History of Japan, 1914-1955

This is the first volume to appear in what will be a definitive multi-volume series covering the whole of modern Japanese economic history. Dual Structure covers the first half of the twentieth century when Japan's economic modernization brought the country into the circle of world powers between the two world wars; the economic system established in the Second World War transformed the economy; and postwar reconstruction provided the foundations for an extraordinary economic dynamism.

Takafusa Nakamura is Professor Emeritus at the University of Tokyo where he held a number of different appointments throughout his career. He was also Director of the Economic Research Institute at the Economic Planning Agency, Government of Japan; Professor of Economics at Ochanomizu Women's University, and Professor of Economics at Toyo Eiwa University. Konosuke Odaka is Director of the Institute of Comparative Economic Studies at Hosei University. Previous positions have included Professor of Economics, Hosei University; Director of the Institute of Economic Research, Hitotsubashi University; and Associate Professor of Economics at Hitotsubashi University.
