Economy and Exchange in the East

Funded by the European Union, the Populus project is a major study of long-term change in Mediterranean Europe involving a multidisciplinary team of archaeologists, palaeoscientists and historians. Each volume focuses on a different methodological or theoretical aspect of Mediterranean archaeology.

Far from seeing a withdrawal into insularity, the period after the fall of Rome was one of vibrant internationalism. The papers in this book explore trade and contact in the Eastern Mediterranean with many of the authors drawing on modern archaeological techniques and models to shed new light on the period.
