It is at the top of a mountain in the Alps that an inexplicable, almost irrational, anguish takes hold of Luiz Schwarcz's breathing, blocking his throat when he most needed air. At that precise moment, he made the decision to write this book. The Lack of Air is the project that the author had nurtured for years: to write his father’s story, his family’s story, who abandoned everything to escape Nazi terror and whose weight of it all Schwarcz has been carrying on his shoulders all his life.
