This story opens after two parents have had a huge blowout and decided to separate. The mother moves into her father’s house, who descends from a tribe in India. May has written her own story in order to find herself and understand the meaning of: family, work, effort, and the unity that her parents denied her with their fighting. She eventually learns about generosity and the unexpected abundance found in the bees her grandfather, and leader, keeps in Big Sur. These memoirs reveal the life lessons that her grandfather taught her thirty years ago.

Meredith May is an award-winning journalist and a 5th generation beekeeper. During her 16-year career at the San Francisco Chronicle, she earned a PEN USA Award for journalism, and a Casey Medal. The Professional Journalist Society and the Associated Press recognized her as one of the best writers in journalism. Her series about an Iraqi boy that was wounded during the second Gulf War won her a Pulitzer Prize. Meredith also teaches journalism and podcasting at the University of Oakland.
