ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

A family drama that contains the rage and frustration of a marginalized social class. A masterpiece of a novel by one of the best European authors alive today.

On December 27, 1974, 42 workers lost their lives at the Saint-Amé well, in the Paso de Calais mining basin.

Michel Flavent, the narrator, explains that his younger brother Joseph had been fatally injured and died shortly after. After the tragedy, Michel left the North of France to settle in Paris. Now he feels the need to tell us about his obsession with the accident, and his belief that everything could have been prevented. He also confesses how his desire for justice was quickly leading to a thirst for revenge. It was a thirst so insatiable that he could not get over the idea even when other more serious events haunted the family.

It has taken him forty years to return to that place and punish the guilty parties.
