The End of the Ottoman Empire, 1908-1923

For almost 400 years the Ottoman Empire had dominated the Middle East. This is an incisive account of the destruction of that Empire in the period of WW I. Dr. Macfie examines the principle events that led to the destruction of the Empire, and examines the factors which determined that outcome. He analyzes the forces of reform, revolution and reaction in the Ottoman territories, paying particular attention to the role of the Committee of Union and Progress and describes the impact of the successive defeats it suffered in the Tripolitanian, Balkan and First World Wars.
