The book starts off with an introduction to necessary chemistry concepts, and thereafter is arranged by emission/pollutant type: air, water and wastewater, solid waste, noise, and radioactive decay. Each chapter will first discuss the given topic, and will be followed by a completed example problem to illustrate the concept. Each succeeding topic builds upon others that have preceded it. Where a more extensive discussion is warranted, original case-study material is contained in an appendix. A great advantage of the book is that it consolidates information and technical calculations on a wide variety on environmental factors, all within the same volume. The second chapter also provides an introductory instructional overview of several of the most important concepts in environmental chemistry, ranging from the ideal gas law to heat transfer. Kunz will also go over conversion of chemical units and give basic chemical equations in this chapter.
