Escape from Korea

In June 1950, the United States, along with other members of the United Nations, thwarted the surprise Communist invasion of South Korea with military force. Before it was over some three years later, more than 35,000 Americans had been killed in action, more than 90,000 had been wounded, and nearly 9,000 are still listed as missing in action. Thousands simply froze to death. Their sacrifice and determination enabled South Korea to pursue the freedom, democracy, and prosperity that it enjoys today. Congress approved acceptance of the Republic of Korea War Service Medal on August 20, 1999, about 46 years after the war ended. Book jacket.
