Following the discovery, on her father's death in Oxfordshire, England of a set of letters written to him between 1904 and 1907 by his first cousin, Etta, who lived in Oil City, Pennsylvania, USA, it had always been his daughter's intention to have them published. As a result of the author's family tree research, contact was made with Archibald's daughter, Beryl, which has led to this book. Archibald was the younger brother of the author's great grandfather, George. The letters provide a fascinating insight into life in Pennsylvania at the time, with accounts of family life, employment, particularly in oil and education, transport, politics, religion, climate, agriculture and more. Etta Stevens wrote with feeling and understanding and as the letters are read you are drawn into the events experienced in this three year period of the two cousin's lives as they communicate across the Atlantic Ocean at a time when the World was advancing into the twentieth century.
