Danny Gregory is responsible for an entire community of artists. His website, DannyGregory.com, forms a meeting point for hundreds of New Yorkers - and visitors from around the world - who have encountered his remarkable book The Creative License and found that art has the power to change them infinitely for the better. Danny used to be a typical New York professional. Busy, driven, eyes on the future. As did his wife, Patti. Their baby, Jack, was 10 months old - life was good. And then Patti fell under a subway train and was paralysed from the waist down. Stunned in a world where nothing seemed to have much meaning any more, Danny decided to teach himself to draw - and what he learned saved him. Suddenly things had colour again, and value. Danny Gregory is the author of Hello World: A Life in Ham Radio and Everyday Matters: A New York Diary. He first encountered a filmstrip near a bullock paddock in western Pakistan, but now lives in New York's Greenwich Village with his wife and young son.
