Eye of the Hare

These are poems that explore the parameters of a contemporary Christian sensibility in an attempt--through the reclamation of the language of sacrament and celebration--to re-invent a meaningful approach to contemporary problems. Moving from sonnet and stories through Biblical echoes, to the music of psalms, this compilation examines the failures of care towards the earth and society, and offers Christian spirituality as a form of solace. Reflecting the poet's heritage, this collection also divulges the beauty of Achill, an island off Ireland's west coast.

John F. Deane is the founder of Poetry Ireland and The Poetry Ireland Review. He is the author of Fugue: New and Selected Poems and Toccata and the recipient of the O’Shaughnessy Award for Irish Poetry. In 1996, he was elected Secretary General of the European Academy of Poetry.
