Classical theism is a complex mix of elements and in modern times, it has come under increasing pressure both from the side of philosophy and from faith. Christian thinkers from early times claimed that God's reply to Moses from the burning bush - I Am That I Am - proved the legitimacy of making a connection to philosophical ideas of Being. But as McCabe argues, Aquinas in the light of this insisted that the best possible name for God was He Who Is.
