Lewis Thompson (19091949) was primarily a poet, a man of letters influenced by Eastern spiritualism and the poets Rimbaud and Rilke. Lewis Thompson spent twelve years traveling in South India without financial support other than the generosity of friends. In 1943 he became “poet in residence” at Rajghat School, Benares.
