This book is designed to influence activists and political leaders on the action and legal policies needed to deal with the abuses in the corporate sector that have been revealed in recent years. It will highlight the contribution of company law and practice to the current crisis in capitalism. It is composed of two major sections:
(1) an angry account with detailed illustrations of how the various abuses of predatory capitalism – tax avoidance, extraction of value and asset stripping, environmental destruction and managerial self-interest – have been carried out through the manipulation of the corporate form and the creation of highly complex corporate groups;
(2) the development of a set of practical proposals both for activists and for politicians on how each of these abuses can be curtailed and how a more acceptable form of responsible corporate capitalism can be developed through national and international action.
The book is collectively written by the Corporate Reform Collective composed of eight legal and management experts and activists.
