Tom Slayton is editor-in-chief of Vermont Life magazine and a seventh-generation Vermonter. In the course of a 20-year career with the Rutland Herald and Barre-Montpelier Times Argus, he covered Vermont politics, the state legislature, and a wide variety of environmental and economic issues, winning awards from the Vermont Press Association and the New England Press Association. He was chief of the Vermont Press Bureau and for six years was the Vermont correspondent for the Boston Globe. For more than 10 years he has been a commentator for Vermont Public Radio. He has received the Franklin Fairbanks Award for Service to Vermont and Its People and an honorary doctorate in humanities from Southern Vermont College.
