Flora and Her Family is a glowing tribute to an almost forgotten but intrepid beauty, Flora Mae Hackett of Monon, Indiana. Born 1902, upon graduation from high school, Flora decided to try the big city and moved to Chicago. She then entered the Five-States Beauty Contest sponsored by the Chicago Tribune - and won! Aside from the sole copy (in the author's possession) of the Rotogravure section of the Chicago Tribune (June 5, 1921) there is no official record left of her after that day. This novel pays homage to this remarkable woman who is one of a long list of Hoosiers who distinguished themselves and honored their state. May her memory be an inspiration to all.
