The Force of Consciousness

A mutually understood vocabulary is essential for meaningful communication. This is especially true in the sciences, particularly philosophy. The meanings we attach to words such as 'œself'� and 'œconsciousness'� are generally very personalized and easily deceiving. What 'œattention'� means to one person is lost on another. We need to properly define our terms. One of the most important preliminary steps to a scientific study of consciousness is the formulation of a clear and consistent language, ultimately a language that accurately encompasses the totality of the subject. We currently possess no such language. We must instead develop a new understanding of our existing language. We must elucidate the significance we attach to words. A glossary is essential. A glossary is a list of terms with definitions. Bear in mind that only in the perfecting of this science'”in the fullness of consciousness'”will its glossary be true and complete.
