Hervey Keyes (1803-1887) was an American author, famous for one book, The Forest King; or, The Wild Hunter of the Adaca (1878). He worked on the farm with his father until he was 22, married and settled in Laurens, Otsego County, N. Y. Because of bad health, they moved to Jacksonville where Keyes became a merchant, a job he held for 12 years, whilst also serving as a postmaster, justice of the peace and holding various political offices. He also served in the local military units.
