French Colonial Archaeology in the Southeast

Often overlooked, the French colonial presence in the southern United States and Caribbean shaped the history and development of these regions in unique ways. To address this imbalance, Kenneth Kelly and Meredith Hardy have compiled a selection of case studies analyzing and assessing French impact throughout this area.

Kenneth G. Kelly is professor of anthropology at the University of South Carolina, and contributor to Envisioning Landscape: Situations and Standpoints in Archaeology and Heritage and The Archaeology of Cultural Circulation: Exploring the Social Dimensions of Trade and Exchange. Meredith D, Hardy is an archaeologist with the National Park Service-Southeast Archeo-logical Center and has worked across the southeastern United States and Caribbean, specializing in islands, the Gulf Coast, and Caribbean regions.
