The Future of the Welfare State: European and Global Perspectives

This book challenges the common belief that welfare states are either already in or are heading towards crisis. Instead it is argued that a proper understanding of the future role of the welfare state requires a much broader social perspective that includes the interplay of economic, political and social processes. The overall aim of the book is to provide an interdisciplinary analysis of the different challenges which the European welfare states will have to meet in the future.
