Genome Plasticity and Infectious Diseases

The genome plasticity of microbial pathogens represents a significant hurdle in the development of effective vaccines and therapeutic interventions. Genome Plasticity and Infectious Diseases addresses the great clinical need to identify genetic variations within hosts that either improve resistance or increase susceptibility to infectious pathogens.

Jrg Hacker obtained his PhD from the University of Halle (Saale). His research focuses on the molecular analysis of infectious bacteria and of host-pathogen interactions. He has served as the director of the Institute for Molecular Infection Biology at the University of Wrzburg and the president of the Robert Koch Institute. He is currently the president of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. Ulrich Dobrindt received his PhD from the University of Wrzburg. His research centers on enterobacterial genome plasticity and its impact on bacterial adaptation and evolution as well as the interaction of Escherichia coli with its hosts. He is the head of the Bacterial Genome Plasticity section of the Institute for Hygiene at the University of Mnster. Reinhard Kurth received his PhD from the University of Erlangen. He has served as the director of the Paul Ehrlich Institute and the German Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices and as the president of the Robert Koch Institute. He is currently the chairman of the Ernst Schering Foundation.
