George Steeves: Photographs

Photographer George Steeves is known for an iconography shot through with frank nudity, reverence for emotional pain and black humor. The subjects who appear in his photographs are Steeves's friends. Their melodramatic performances for the camera result from voluntary collaborations with the photographer, who also occasionally steps in front of the lens. For over twenty years the theatricalization of the self has been at the core of Steeves's artistic practice. This publication presents a first look at a new series entitled, Excautions.
