Global Children, Global Media Migration, Media and Childhood

Children today are growing up in a world of global media, in which the voices of many cultures compete for attention. Increasing numbers of children are also citizens of the globe: they live in multicultural societies, many have migrated themselves and live within active diasporic and transnational networks. The authors offer a fresh perspective on the relationships between media, globalisation and contemporary childhood.

LIESBETH DE BLOCK is Lecturer in Media, Culture and Communication at the Institute of Education, London University, UK, and Research Officer in the Centre for the Study of Children Youth and Media. Previously she worked in London schools, supporting refugee children.

DAVID BUCKINGHAM is Professor of Education at the Institute of Education, London University, UK, where he directs the Centre for the Study of Children, Youth and Media (www.childrenyouthandmediacentre.co.uk). He is also Visiting Professor at the Norwegian Centre of Child Research. His research focuses on children's and young people's interactions with electronic media, and on media education. He has published 22 books including Young People, Sex and the Media, Video Cultures and Doing Visual Research with Children and Young People.  His work has been translated into 15 languages.
