Global Trends in Human Resource Management

Increased foreign direct investment across the world and the trend for operating across national borders means that employers have to deal with the demands of managing people in different national contexts and to develop human resource management (HRM) policies and practices that are appropriate for their specific location. These demands require an understanding of how HRM policies and practices may differ across countries and how the development of management practice may be affected by different institutional and cultural contexts. This volume, compiled of contributions from a range of well-respected HRM scholars world-wide, offers such an understanding and is based upon data from a unique research project, Cranet, that has been collected from more than 40 countries and over a period of 23 years.

EMMA PARRY is a Reader in Human Resource Management at Cranfield University School of Management, UK. Her research focuses on the impact of contextual factors on human resource management (HRM), specifically the impact of national context and sector in shaping HRM and the impact of demographic and technological change.
ELENI STAVROU is Associate Professor of Management at the University of Cyprus. She obtained her Ph.D. at the George Washington University, USA. She has published widely including articles in various academic journals, such as Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Business Ethics, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, British Journal of Management, and International Human Resource Management Journal. Her research interests include work-life issues, strategic and comparative human resource management, and intergenerational transitions in family firms.
MILA LAZAROVA is an Associate Professor of International Business and the Director of the Centre for Global Workforce Strategy at the Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University, Canada. She holds a PhD in IH/IR from Rutgers University and conducts research in international and comparative human resource management.
