This text is focused on teaching students to think critically about religion and ecology. Many existing textbooks in "religion and ecology" take a comparative approach to the subject focusing on the ways in which various religious traditions have encountered (or should encounter) the environmental crisis. In contrast, this book provides an introduction to the contested domains of key theoretical concepts. Student learning will be focused less on the content of "world religions" and more on the process of thinking critically and reflexively about religion, the environment, and intimately related concerns. The text will serve as a "Field Guide" by including numerous case studies: examples of religious practices, environmental problems, and spiritual practices to which students can apply what they have learned.
