Published when the novel was still a developing literary form, it has never lost its appeal. Its author, Jonathan Swift was intimately involved in the political and religious affairs of his day. A master in the use of satire, Swift exposes the contradictions, the corruption, and the conflicts of which he is all too aware. The journeys of his chosen hero Gulliver take him to many known and unknown parts of the world. In truth, however, he never travels far from the realities of his own country.
