From 1961 till the late 1970's Elmer Keith was a regular contributor to Guns & Ammo magazine with a regular monthly column. From these treasures trove the material, the finest articles were selected and compiled in a two-volume series.
Elmer Merrifield Keith was born 8 March 1899 in Hardin, Missouri. His family moved to Montana while he was still very young. He was a rugged frontiersman who grew up in the West during the last of its "wild and woolly days." At an early age he became an expert with firearms. Keith had the persona of being "bigger than life," and he is generally regarded by those who knew him personally to be "quite a character." He married Lorraine Randall in 1926, and they had two children, one of whom died tragically at an early age. Keith died 14 February 1983 in Boise, Idaho
