Hochschulinformatik in Der Bundesrepublik Und Der Ddr Bis 1989/1990

During the 1970's, Computer Science established itself as an academic subject at institutes of higher education, and, as evidenced by the increasing number of student enrollments, has seen a steady increase in popularity. This work documents the evolution of the subject of Computer Science, and takes a close look at the struggles engineers and mathematicians faced to achieve the assignment of their new discipline. Using almost thirty schools as a basis of discussion, the author presents the close ties between computer science, economics, and politics at institutes of higher education (universities, technical universities, technical and engineering schools) in Germany and the former German Democratic Republic up until the changes of 1989/90, and analyzes them in terms of their economic importance.
