"Negligence, passion, and malice are the root causes of all sin" Saint Bonaventure tells us. This book will help eliminate these causes and replace them with a truly spiritual and Holy life. He begins with true knowledge of self, which leads us to true humility. He then extols the necessary virtues of poverty and silence. The important practice of prayer is described with a remembrance of the Passion of Jesus Christ, which all spiritual authors consider an essential part of sanctification. Perfect love of God is explained. Bonaventure closes with the all important virtue of perseverance, especially final perseverance at the time of death. Although written for religious, this book has much useful advice for lay people as well, since all of us are called to become Saints!
