Holographic Reprocessing is a cognitive-experiential psychotherapy based on cognitive experiential self-theory (CEST), first put forth by Seymour Epstein. CEST posits that people have a natural adaptive system for processing information. However, if an emotionally distressing event is not fully processed, the individual may attempt to resolve this emotional blockage by unconsciously setting up situations recreating the original experience. This reenactment can serve to reinforce negative perceptions and the emotional blockage can become problematic. Holographic reprocessing offers clients an opportunity to gain a new awareness and understanding of their reenactments, thereby facilitating a constructive reorganization of their perceptual and emotional behavioral tendencies. Written by a clinical psychologist specializing in the trauma therapy, this volume will guide mental health professionals through the use of holographic reprocessing in their treatment of trauma victims, from sufferers of PTSD torape victims.
