In THE HONORABLE OUTSIDERS Jack Higgins offers up an intensely atmospheric tale set during the tense days in Spain in the years leading up to the Spanish Civil War. A short, stately coming-of-age novel, we see this era anew through the eyes of a young Cambridge-educated, emotionally repressed Irishman who arrives in Andalusia to tutor the young children of a large landowner, surrounded by a countryside seething with poverty but bound inextricably by tradition. John Higgins was born in 1938 and trained as an architect and urban planner at Edinburgh University and the University of Wisconsin. Under the leadership of the legendary Edmund Bacon he led the Department of Community Planning in Philadelphia , was Assistant Professor of Architecture at Drexel University, and Executive Director of The Foundation for Architecture. John lives in Philadelphia with his wife the artist Raquel Montilla; together they have resided part-time in Madrid throughout the last 40 years. This is his first novel.
