Schizophrenia is a psychiatric term describing a mental condition that prevents an individual from recognizing reality; but of course the word reality is subjective, isn't it. Harry Cain knows all about schizophrenia as he has spent long periods of time in sanitariums taking daily doses of Dopamine and memorizing self-improvement phrases such as 'Nordman isn't real. Nordman is a figment of my imagination. I suffer from a psychosis. I can overcome this disease through force of will and by taking the drugs as prescribed by my doctors.'Released and once again a member of society, Harry falls in love and at the adamant insistence of his pregnant girlfriend agrees to use his exceptional intelligence to come up with a scheme that will make them wealthy; or failing that, to join her and her unborn child in suicide. Harry makes good use of his weird view of reality, develops an amazing plan and agrees to execute it; but with one strict codicil: nobody dies. Poor naive Harry, he really believed that was possible.
