Glenn S. Levine (Ph.D., University of Texas at Austin) is Professor of German and affiliated professor in the Department of Language Science at the University of California, Irvine. At UC Irvine he also serves as the German language program director and in 2020 will begin a term as director of the northern Europe study abroad programs of the University of California. Levine has published widely in applied linguistics and language pedagogy. He is the author of Code Choice in the Language Classroom (Multilingual Matters, 2011) and Incomplete First-Language Acquisition in the Immigrant Situation: Yiddish in the United States (Max Niemeyer Verlag, 2000). He co-edited the AAUSC volume Critical and Intercultural Theory and Language Pedagogy (with Alison Phipps; Cengage, 2012). He has published in the Modern Language Journal, Language Teaching Research, Foreign Language Annals, and other journals as well as in edited volumes on the role of the first language in second-language learning and teaching, language use and socialization during study abroad, theoretically and empirically informed approaches to language pedagogy, and issues of language program direction. His current research focuses on language development and integration among migrant populations in Germany.
