Jim and Cathy Ferguson were very young when they first met, neither had ever dated anyone else, and from that time, they only had eyes for each other. Graduation from university was a long way off as they struggled with their love and need for each other. Jim, struggling with his upbringing by his very religious parents, was trying hard to be good and Cathy, although more open, had an over protective father. Every young girl should have a mother like Cathy's, her best friend and confidant. Her mother helps her with advice and encouragement. When things get rough, she also gives her not-to-be-denied support. When they do get married and their young daughter Ann is born, they seem to have a lifetime of happiness ahead of them. Jim's job, however, requires him to travel and while rushing home to his hotel one bitterly cold night he spots a young lady-of-the-night. The street he is on usually had several ladies-of-the-night, but tonight she is alone and shivering uncontrollably. Although he felt very sorry for her, Jim lacked the courage to stop. He feels guilty and tells his wife Cathy during his nightly phone call. With Cathy's prompting and encouragement, he goes to see a local pastor, Pastor Williams, and his wife Martha. The pastor with the help of a police sergeant, Bob White, manages to get the young woman into the rectory to spend the night. When they discover the young woman is pregnant, they all, including Cathy attempt to help her escape by sending her home with Jim. Cathy waits up for them, but they never come. Cathy has strong visions in two dreams of what has happened to Jim, she and her mother believe he is still alive. She confides to a close friend, she is uncertain if that is because he is alive or that their love is taking a long time to die. Cathy has other dreams in which Jim communicates with her. From these dreams, she believes he is badly hurt, but she does not know where he is. Without knowing what has really happened to Jim, and only able to share his love in her dreams, Cathy passes her dreams to Pastor Williams. Her dreams seem so real to her, she hopes it might help the pastor or Bob White to find Jim. As she and her mother wait for some news, they refuse to accept that, for which everyone else is trying to prepare them. Over the previous two years she had built up a strong companionship with the lady next door, who was about her own age. This companionship along with her mother, help her to relax through a very trying period. While relaxed the strong bond of love between her and Jim allows them to communicate in her dreams and gives her hope for his eventual return. Her mother passes the information from Cathy's dreams to the pastor, who in turn passes it on to Bob White. Although they cannot rely on this information, when added to other information they find, it is very useful in helping to form a theory of what has happened -
