Inheriting the World : The Atlas of Children's Health and the Environment

More than three million children die each year throughout the world due to the effects of unhealthy environments, exposed to hazards such as air pollution and poor sanitation, as well as complex emerging global issues linked to climate change. This publication is divided into 20 chapters which contain information, full-colour maps and graphics detailing the range of environmental risks which blight children's lives, particularly those in developing countries where they are aggravated by persistent poverty. Issues considered include: lack of water resources and poor sanitation; fluoride and arsenic in drinking water; malaria; malnutrition; passive smoking and respiratory diseases; outdoor pollution and polluted cities, road traffic accidents and child injuries; child labour; lead poisoning; unsafe food and pesticides; features of a healthy school environment; dangers of UV radiation exposure from the sun; climate change and child health risks.
