Internal Photoemission Spectroscopy

Photoemission of charge carriers from one solid into another (internal photoemission, IPE) is the counterpart of the well-known photoemission into vacuum (external photoemission), which constitutes the basis of a wide spectrum of surface spectroscopy techniques. Similarly, IPE is a powerful tool for electron state spectroscopy at interfaces and in heterostructures, combining the interface sensitivity typical of conventional photoelectron spectroscopy, sufficient depth and the non-destructive character of analysis characteristic of optical spectroscopy. The book provides the reader with the first elaborate description of the fundamental and technical aspects of IPE spectroscopy as well as with an overview of recent achievements in the field of novel material systems for electronic application in micro-and nanodevices.
